Please check your email to see if you or your child's name is on the list. Registration should be completed before the test, and tuition must be up to date.
Test candidates should take as many classes as possible between now and test day. Mighty Lions should continue to take two classes per week to prepare for their test.
Adult and Junior Color Belts, please be certain to review your study sheet. If you misplace your study sheet, or if you are uncertain of the answers, click here to find the sheets on the website under Student Resources.
Students who are testing for Green Belt or higher are encouraged to get sparring gear. Students who have sparring gear should bring it to the test.
On test day all classes will be held as scheduled
Test times for Saturday, March 23, 2019 will be as follows:
Congratulations to everyone who competed on Saturday, March 3rd!
If you want to try it out for yourself we are hosting The US Masters Invitational on Saturday, May 18th in Caldwell, NJ. As a bonus this is a UTA Grand Nationals Qualifier: 1st place winners will be eligible to compete in Nationals in July!
Ok, I know you have an idea of what sumo is but the very large men wearing very little clothing are a far cry from what you're used to seeing when you come to Taekwon-do, right? And that's not the sort of opponent you imagine your child facing, right?
Also, this is a Taekwon-do school, what does Sumo have to do with our training?
Well, it's offered at the Immortal Dragon Martial Arts 2nd Annual Winter Tournament on March 3rd, and it's a lot of fun. Strategically the kids learn easy grappling and sweeping, and they have to pay attention to their opponent and what he or she is doing.
You know, instead of talking about it, let me show you video from the Presidents Day Mini-camp.
We didn't get anything from most of the day's activities: there were two taekwon-do classes, a sort of Easter egg hunt, many games of tag, a few ball drop races, a laser maze and some sumo wrestling. These last two were where we have photos and video.
Sumo will be on offer at the competition on March 3rd at Immortal Dragon in Montville, which is about 20 minutes from Montclair. Everyone had a lot of fun with it last year, even though many people had never tried it before.

How often can you break a whole lot of stuff without getting into trouble? We had lots of fun and not a single mom told us not to play ball in the house. For the competition we had:
3 matches per competitor
Maximum of 3 boards per match for each competitor
So how many boards did we need for the day? A LOT!
Photos are on our Facebook page, click here to see them and how awesome everyone was!
Congratulations to everyone who came and participated, thank you to the Black Belts for judging, to the Adults and Juniors who held boards, and to everyone who helped out in so many ways.
What a fun day!

On Sunday, February 10th starting at 10:30 we will have our first ever in-school board breaking competition. It will be similar in format to the In-School Sparring Competition we held in the Fall, but competitors get to break stuff! This event will be board breaking only and it is designed so that each competitor is guaranteed multiple chances to break.
Get experience so you are more confident for testing, and so you have ideas of what breaks are good for *you* when you compete.
Juniors and Adults are welcome to come and try their prowess, Junior and Adult Black Belts should come and provide help with judging and earn valuable experience!
On Presidents Day, February 18, 2019, we are offering a one-day mini-camp to keep children active and engaged. All students will arrive at 9:00am, Mighty Lions ($40 per student) have a half day that is done at 12:00 and Juniors ($60 per student) will stay until 3:00. The morning will have all-ages games, a snack and taekwon-do practice. In the afternoon the Juniors will have lunch followed by more advanced training and more games.
Students should arrive in regular clothes and will bring their own lunch and reusable water bottle, as well as their taekwon-do uniform and belt.
